The guys with slower growth aren’t broadcasting their slow growth for us to look at. The point is that it’s possible to grow at these rates. In a job, it’s not.

My Short Review and Summary

Short Review

Huge fan of this book by Taylor Pearson. The writing style left me wanting more, the sentence structure was weird at times, and he definitely added a ton of fluff toward the end. YET, I can’t help but love this book.

Taylor puts words and research to a lot of the thoughts and feelings I have about how the world is changing. I found myself nodding, laughing, and otherwise thrilled to have a found a book that lays it out so cleanly.

Entrepreneurship isn’t risky business. In fact, Taylor provides convincing evidence that it’s MUCH riskier to stay at a normal job. He goes line by line and even shares the history of jobs and how things were, compared to how they are now. I usually start nodding off whenever history works its way into a book, but I didn’t mind it at all here.

The End of Jobs is an absolute must read for anyone who feels like things are changing in the world economy, but needs it defined for them.

Summary Notes

  • Taylor spends a lot of time looking at the way things used to be, and sharing how and why the need for college and higher education once worked, but not anymore.
  • The returns on credentials are decreasing, yet the cost is skyrocketing.
  • More than half of America’s recent college graduates are either unemployed or working in a job that doesn’t require a bachelor’s degree. Yikes!
  • Entrepreneurship not only makes sense financially, it allows the person to build invaluable skills.
  • He shares the turkey fallacy. The belief that just because the butcher hasn’t killed the turkey in 1000 days, doesn’t mean it will get off scotch free on Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is coming for a lot of folks with “normal” jobs.
  • He does a great job showing why it’s riskier NOT going into business for yourself.
  • He shares insights into why the sharing economy came to be, and implores the reader to believe that they too can seize this opportunity.
